Franklin Technology Center is excited about some of the new additions to various programs this school year. Now offering Diesel Training in addition to Automotive Training, we have a new Freightliner truck that will be a terrific training tool for our Diesel instructor along with other engine trainers and scan tools that were received from the EDA grant last year.  The addition of diesel instruction for our students gives them another opportunity for entry level job placement when they complete our program.  In some cases, the students may choose to pursue further training and become more specialized in either the automotive or diesel field.

This year’s enhancement grant funding is being utilized to upgrade the Agriculture/Natural Resources greenhouse at Franklin Tech..  The new water cooling equipment will improve temperatures inside during times of extreme heat.  The other improvement will be to take care of the need for some bug screening to help keep the pest problem under control at certain times of the year.

The Collision Repair program will be adding a new dust collection system to the lab that will be mobile and available to be used by multiple students at a time.  This will be used in the sanding and painting/priming areas.

JHS/FTC will be offering the final course in the Bio-Medical Science program this year and will graduate our first program completers.  The new course is Bio-medical Innovations and is a capstone course for the program that is very project-based.  Courses are now offered by JHS/FTC in the Bio-medical Science Project Lead the Way program as follows: 9th grade Principles of Bio-medical Science, 10th grade Human Body Systems, 11th grade Medical Interventions, and 12th grade Bio-medical Innovations.  Students can purchase dual credit for the program through the University of Missouri at Rolla S & T.  The PLTW Engineering program is also offered to JHS/FTC students.

The JHS/FTC school stores will have a new shopware system that will not only benefit the stores, but be a great training tool for the students working in them.  These are just a few of the new things that will be happening.  We are also excited to have our new instructors,(Joe Flynn-Automotive Technology, Bob Schroer Diesel Technology, and Brad Douglas, TV/Audio Production) and counselor, (Jeff Brown) on board.  We look for a great year at FTC.
